Climate Stories is currently in creation phase and we are looking for funding and co-production partners. If interested, please contact us via the contact form here.

Integrating dance, theatre, spoken word and video, Climate Stories digs deep into the personal lives of real individuals who have been directly impacted by climate change. The performance shifts the focus from general and abstract ideas like a 1.5° rise in global temperature to relatable and palpable stories of droughts, floods, and other climate-related natural disasters. Revanta weaves together myth and folklore, science and technology, and human apathy and suffering in an evocative piece that is honest, immersive and thought-provoking.

About the Project

Climate change is an urgent threat to our planet. According to a UN Special Report in 2018, over 91% of all major disasters recorded from 1988 to 2017 were climate-related. Despite the undeniable evidence of global warming, many governments refuse to believe and address this issue in their policies. For many individuals, climate change is a distant and abstract concept, far from the reality that we are living everyday and yet for numerous others, the impact of climate change is being felt intensely and is having very real consequences on their lives. Over 3.5 billion people have been affected by adverse conditions leading to economic losses. Climate change is disrupting national economies — a dramatic rise of 251% globally was seen in direct economic losses from climate-related disasters in the last 20 years, displacing hundreds of thousands and taking the lives of thousands more across the world.

Revanta Sarabhai, through a new dance-theatre production, brings together personal stories of lives affected by climate change. These are crowd-sourced, true stories of people whose lives have been deeply impacted by climate change, put together in a multimedia production that will be developed with international collaborators and will premiere and tour in 2020-21.
